Huntley and Palmers biscuit tin in the form of a Snake Skin Effect Walletis for sale. This Huntley and Palmers novelty biscuit tin is in the shape of a bag with a handle. Surfaces decorated with imitation grey snakeskin.
The lid has an embossed ribbon-like design running diagonally across it. Gold clasp (now missing) and handle to the top of the novelty biscuit tin.
To the inside of the lid of the Huntley and Palmers novelty biscuit tin reads:
“Huntley & Palmers Biscuits Reading & London”
There are scratches to this tin but this does not detract from the aesthetic appearance of this attractive biscuit tin that measure 7.00 inches (approx) in length x 6.00 inches (approx) in height and 3.00 inches (approx) in width. There is some surface rust to the inside of the lid.
A companion tin to the 'Canteen' tin of 1901-1902 and the 'Log' tin from the same period, this was the third and last in a series of bag-shaped tins issued by Huntley & Palmers.
The animal skin effect was described as 'shark skin'. 120,000 copies of this tin were produced - but the number that have survived the 100+ years and two world wars is unknown.
The Snake Skin Wallet Huntley and Palmers vintage novelty biscuit tin is in Very Good condition and exhibits rubbing and scratches to the tin which, due to the colouring and pattern of the tin, are not too noticeable.
